Meet the Artist

[vc_wp_text]

“Life brings both beautiful and destructive events and emotions. By looking back at the Romantic period in art, with a focus on paintings of tumultuous, emotive seascapes, I learnt that artists expressed their experiences of life and society of their time, more specifically the political unrest that existed.

Art can be anything, but it is most definitely€lol whether realistic, or not, a representation of life.

For me, Art is a way of dealing with experiences which I don’t quite understand. Thoroughly examining them through making; learning and developing my knowledge of that subject by reading and understanding what came before, what is now, and what could be…

Being an Artist has allowed me to explore difficult experiences through the exploration of materials and processes and an array of both historical and contemporary artists.

It’s a kind of therapy, I get to explore difficult events in my life through Art; the art of making acts as a barrier, a kind of ‘fourth wall’ between me and my experiences.“

The Process

The process of making starts off with a feeling… this can be any feeling or emotion, good or bad. The intuition is what develops the painting; there is no specific formula to creating these paintings, only that you choose the colours you feel express that particular emotion.

‘Frustration’ is a painting which does this exactly. It reflects a moment of shame and anger, and yet you see within this work, the central focus of light… What is special about this work is that you can take what you wish from it. Does it make you feel good? Does the harshness of the palette knife put you on edge when combined with the red? Can you see hope amid anger and fear?

This work is not just designed to be pretty, but to help people contemplate an underlying theme of darkness that permeates the work. Not everything is as it seems.
